All potential clients must read and agree to these terms of service before any commissioned work is accepted.
- Payment is due in advance of any work sent, and is expected in a timely fashion. If payment is not received, I reserve the right to move you down in the queue in favor of other paid work.
- I reserve the right to cancel a commission at any time. If work has not yet begun, the client will receive a refund in full. Otherwise, the client will receive a refund based on how much work has been finished.
- Stages of Work: Each commission goes through one or more stages of approval. Beyond that stage, any changes beyond the scope of those listed here count as major reworks, and will require extra payment to complete. The commissioner is urged to make sure these details are accurate in each stage, as changes become more difficult as I proceed.
- Rough Stage: I will create a number of rough layouts for you to pick from, usually 3-5. During this time, the commissioner is allowed to request major changes, which include: different layout, addition of characters, different settings, etc.
- Pencil Stage: I will clean up and add detail to the chosen rough. For a line drawing, this is the final stage. Minor changes are allowed here, in the form of tweaks to the character’s clothing, small tweaks to the pose such as hand or arms, and shape-based tweaks. The client may keep these sketches and use them however they wish, as long as it is for personal use only.
- Color Stage: I add color and/or shading. Only minor changes to color and texture are allowed during this stage. If all goes as planned, I consider the commission complete.
- Any sketches or other work-in-progress shots I do during the project will be for the client’s personal use only. My art may not be coloured or finished by another artist without my permission. The client may use these sketches/unfinished art as references for other commissions, icons, or any other personal uses.
- Any artwork created belongs to me. I reserve the right to post commissioned art in my online galleries, sell prints, or advertise. Artwork of original characters not belonging to me will be modified at commissioner’s request to preserve the integrity of that original ownership.
- Any work done is intended for personal use, and can be used for anything, as long as no money is being made from its usage. Artwork may be used for badges, icons, banners, or anything else. Artwork may not be republished, recoloured, or resold for profit. The client may repost any commissioned art or sketches in their online galleries as long as credit is given. Any work requested for independently-published projects such as comics, flash games, or card games may be subject to royalty fees, unless rights to the art is sold.
